No More Excuses. Live it Up. Exhibit True Grit.
No more excuses. Accept Responsibility. Live Up or Cop Out. No Excuses, No “ I’ll try” either you do it or you don’t. In life we have either excuses or results. We take responsibility or blame others. Like the life’s lesson when you have fallen into the manhole.. You’ll never get out unless you take responsibility. Excuses are mere cop outs. And the world is replete with examples of people who refuse to accept cop outs or excuses. Here are some more striking examples. Roger Crawford was born with one leg and two arms but no hands. But this did not stop him from playing tennis. In fact, he leaned and trained so well he became a professional tennis player and earned his professional status and makes his living playing and coaching tennis. “ You exhibit what can be called call ‘true grit’ in all that you do. You forget whatever ‘handicaps’ others have assigned to you, and have concentrated on your God given talents you proudly display” Roger Crawford How often do we say: “ I’m to old, too tired, too lazy too busy, too hard Joni Eareckson,- classic example of how a devastating event could turn into a productive and positive life- because there was a refusal to dwell on blame nor excuses or live a life of pity. “One hot July afternoon in 1967, I dove into a shallow lake and my life changed forever. I suffered a spinal cord fracture that left me paralyzed from the neck down, without use of my hands and legs. Lying in my hospital bed, I tried desperately to make sense of the horrible turn of events. I begged friends to assist me in suicide. Slit my wrists, dump pills down my throat, anything to end my misery….” Read on … Joni had a reason… to carry on living. “Now I believe that God’s purpose in my accident was to turn a stubborn kid into a woman who would reflect patience, endurance and a lively, optimistic hope of the heavenly glories above…..I have discovered many good things that have come from my disability. I used to think happiness was a Friday night date, a size 12 dress… Now I know better. What matters is love…I live with the heightened awareness that better things are coming..” There could have been moaning and wailing about why this happened to me, why , why, why. But a positive reason was found, and reframing occurred. Gratitude, optimism, faith, persistence, endurance. This eased the hardship and pain, misery that could have occurred. And the lifetime of blame and excuses…” if only...” She even created a podcast on “ Nothing to complain about” … Grit your teeth, sink it in and get on with it. It could have been worse. And don’t forget to find your reason. No more excuses. You’ll find that life is so much more rewarding when finally get on with it.
